Parole denied for former Thorsby HS teacher convicted of rape, sodomy

CLANTON, Ala. (WIAT) – An Alabama district attorney denied parole for a teacher serving five years in prison for second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy.

Jennifer McNeill, a former teacher and cheerleading coach at Thorsby High School, attended a parole hearing Wednesday for the 60-month sentence she received on Aug. 7.

McNeill was convicted of raping a student under the age of 16.

District Attorney Randall Houston told the parole board the district attorney’s office typically appears before the board when the state’s most violent criminals are set to have a parole hearing.

“In this case we are here because less than four months is an insufficient amount of time to qualify as punishment in this case,” Houston said.

Members of the parole board heard facts of the case and deliberated briefly before ruling to deny parole for McNeill.

McNeill is eligible for “good time” and could be released as early as Nov. 2016, despite having her parole denied, according to Chairman Clifford Walker.

“We are pleased with the Board’s decision today and although we would like to keep her in Tutwiler longer, some things are beyond our control,” said Chief Deputy District Attorney CJ Robinson. “It was a shame we had to come and object at a hearing this soon, but I am glad we can finally close the book on the case. “
