HOMEWOOD, Ala. (WIAT) — About 40 protesters showed up at the Walmart in Wildwood Centre for another “Black Lives Matter” protest.
The protest location was kept secret until two hours before it began at 4:00 p.m. Friday. The details were posted on the Black Lives Matter — Birmingham Facebook page.
Despite the location being kept secret for so long, Homewood police had a plan in place.
“We had an idea well in advance,” Sgt. Andrew Didcoct of the Homewood Police Department said. “Contacting officers and developing a plan and getting everyone here and executing that plan.”
Protesters spent an hour marching around the parking lot, through the store, and even across Lakeshore Parkway. Homewood and Mountain Brook police officers as well as Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office deputies were in place to protect the protesters and act should anything get out of hand.
After the protest was over, two people were arrested by Homewood police for criminal trespassing in the Walmart parking lot. They were taken to the Homewood City Jail, but no details were released about what led up to the arrests.
