Day after Christmas shopping draws manageable crowds throughout Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Hundreds of retailers are offering specials after Christmas deals throughout the country today. Many opened their doors extra early to appease shoppers who could not wait to get out of the house. In Birmingham, the day drew manageable crows who took advantage of sales throughout the city.

The Ramsey family says they wake up early each year to shop after Christmas.

“We hit Lowes, Michaels, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby and Target every year,” said John Ramsey.

For the past few weeks Ramsey has been playing Santa Claus for local charities. Today his Christmas spirit continues as he patiently waited for his wife in the parking lot.

“Every year on the day after Christmas we get up early in the morning and go to all the stores that have sales so we can stock up on lights. We want to make our light show bigger and better every year,” Ramsey said.

Some people we spoke with say they prefer day after Christmas shopping over the crowds that come out on Black Friday.

“It’s more relaxed. The holidays are over with now we can look forward to the New Year,” said Jean Ann Sprayberry.

For those who would rather not brave the crowds, many online retailers are also offering thousands of holiday discounts throughout the weekend.
