VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WIAT) — Nearly 250 people gathered in front of the Cahaba Heights Domino’s Pizza location to remember Najeh Masaeid. He was killed Sunday night while delivering pizzas to a vacant apartment at the District at the Summit apartment complex.
Those gathered at the vigil held candles and sang Christmas carols as one of Najeh’s daughters, Jordan Hosey, spoke to the crowd.
“For someone who did so little, I would never dream for him to touch so many of you,” Hosey told the crowd.
“He died going to work, earning a dollar instead of robbing it,” she said. “I take great pride in that personally, emotionally, spiritually.”
Family, former coworkers and those he touched spoke of Najeh as fun-loving individual.
“He was a good man. He didn’t deserve this at all,” Gig Elliott, a former manager at the Cahaba Heights Domino’s, said. “He was always happy, dancing. He beat me here to the store most of the mornings.”
“He’s just an awesome spirit. He will talk to a random stranger and make him feel so welcomed,” Hosey said. “You could have just had the worst day in your life and you walk in and you see him and he’ll find a way to make you put your guard down.”
Hosey said she has felt a calming spirit the last couple of days while grieving over her father’s death, but only one thing will help her fully get over his murder.
“I just hope we can catch this coward and get him off the street,” she said. “That will be the only thing that will ultimately seal our peace and we can live with this.”
Hosey said there are no real leads in the search for who killed her father. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 205-254-7777. Anyone who provides information to Birmingham Police through Crimestoppers has the option to remain anonymous.
