NEW ORLEANS, La. (WALA) – Just under 48 hours remain till kickoff for the big game down in New Orleans, and on Tuesday morning, players and coaches answered questions from the media ahead of the 2014 Allstate Sugar Bowl.
During media days, journalists from all over can ask just about anything, in an attempt to catch coaches and players off-guard and get the most colorful responses. It was only fitting that one of the day’s best quotes would come from a guy known affectionately as “Nudie Baby” a guy who rarely says much, but has proven doubters wrong both in the classroom and on the field.
Jalston Fowler, a native of Mobile, Ala. and a fifth-year senior for the Alabama Crimson Tide, who also holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the university, gave an unexpected response when a reporter asked him a rather common question.
Is there a guy who’s playing [in the NFL] that you model yourself after?
Without hesitation, Fowler replied, “Marshawn… If I had a chance it would be Marshawn Lynch.”
Marshawn Lynch, the guy whose interviews — or lack thereof — with the media have gone viral and sparked outrage in some and admiration in others.
The same guy who was fined by the NFL after making an obscene gesture during Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. And a guy who some are dubbing the new troublemaker in the NFL.
Marshawn Lynch, is considered one of the NFL’s most entertaining players. He’s a guy who’s talent on the field leaves no questions but, whose interviews, lack many answers.
Jalston Fowler, who doesn’t seem to channel the guy who he admires in interviews (Fowler answered all of the media’s questions in detail) said it has more so to do with who Marshawn lynch as an athlete and what he does on the field.
“Just took his name:’Beast Mode’. I like the way he runs, he goes at you,” Fowler said.
On New Year’s Day, Jalston Fowler, an impact player for Alabama, who Nick Saban praised for giving the Tide life during this year’s Iron Bowl, will have a have a chance once more, to go into “Beast Mode” himself and contribute to an Alabama victory.
No. 1 Alabama will face fourth ranked Ohio State on Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
