Hoover Police K-9 helps apprehend car burglar

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Around 3 AM Wednesday morning, Hoover Police Department responded to a report of a car alarm activated on Brookline Drive. A second report from the same area stated that a male was chased out of a yard by the owner’s dog.

Upon arrival, offecers located a backpack and duffle bag containing stolen items lying near a vehicle in a driveway. Hoover Police Department K-9 Jax was brought in to inspect the scene, and minutes after arriving located the suspect hiding underneath brush next to a nearby creek.

Twenty-four-year-old Stephen Michael Gould of Hoover was arrested and charged with four counts of unlawful breaking and entering a motor vehicle. He is being held at Jefferson County Jail on $40,000 bond.

The items recovered from the bags were traced to cars that had been broken into in the Brookline Drive and Bedford Avenue area.

Gould’s accomplice fled the area and has not yet been charged. Anyone with information on his identity or location is being asked to call Detective Shannise Spruel at 205-444-7562 or Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama at 205-254-7777.
