BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Millions watched Super Bowl XLIX Sunday night. Some in their homes, or at a friend’s house, but for others, they wanted to watch the big game on a big screen.
Whether you root for the Seahawks or the Patriots or just the commercials, nothing beats watching the big game on a big screen. Fans in Birmingham gathered at Iron City to catch all the action.
Iron City opens its doors for concert fans all the time. Sunday, it was a different crowd, although their needs matched a concert crowd, with fans enjoying a cold drink and a good view of the action.
“I’m a big patriots fans,” said Chris Blinn.
“I grew up in Massachusetts, I mean born and raised, so it’s my blood,” said Blinn.
“[I was] born in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1988. I love their uniforms,” said Terrah Brown. She’s a Seahawks fan.
“All we had was rabbit ears and I pulled for them even when they were the “Sea Chickens” back in the day when they were the worst NFL team in the entire history of professional football,” said Brown.
“There’s a lot more Seattle fans out here than I was expecting. I think a lot of people might be jumping on that bandwagon, not saying anything, but we’ll see,” said Blinn.
Despite all the talk about balls.
“Does this look deflated? I dunno, I think it’s normal. This came out of their bag,” joked Blinn. He was wearing a deflated football around his neck. Fans really like a crowd when watching football.
The local chapter of the NFL Players Association also held a fundraiser Sunday night for local charities, hoping to capitalize on every going out to watch the big game.
