BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The 10th Annual Gala for the Sickle Cell Foundation of Central Alabama once again packed the house at the Sheraton Hotel for one of Birmingham’s biggest music nights. “Showtime Birmingham” features a local parade of stars singing in an amped up karaoke for a cause. They headline for a super talented group of local singers who are competing for prizes. The winner is determined by audience applause. Just like the at New York’s famous Apollo Theater.
WIAT 42 News Anchor Sherri Jackson is one of the local celebrities who took part in the night including former Governor Jim Folsom, Attorneys Charlie Waldrep, Randy Jones, Tommy Spina performed as a group. Former County Commissioner Sheila Smoot, Donald Watkins Jr. who is president of his own State Farm Agency District Attorney Gina Levert performed with Judges Lorraine Pringle, Patricia Stephens, and Agnes Chappell as a group. Also performing were Nick Sellers Alabama Power Vice President Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, and mortgage consultant Brenda Brantley.
The Sickle Cell Foundation of Central Alabama serves families in 12 counties. They assist with research funding and meeting the needs of the families they serve with education and finances.
This event has been a must attend fundraiser for the fun and excitement it generates as a Gala for a cause. This year’s Gala was chaired by Norman D. Hill, Vice President of Volkert Inc.
