TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — A new lawsuit is being filed against a Texas drug maker for the death of former Alabama athletic director Mal Moore.
The suit alleges the drug maker Wyeth Pharmaceuticals aggressively marketed the drug for off label use.
Birmingham attorney Kirk Wood is representing mal Moore’s estate. He wouldn’t talk about the case when called this afternoon other, than to say he was representing the family.
The suit was filed on March 30th by Moore’s daughter. In it, they allege that Wyeth Pharmaceuticals promotes their drug Amiodarone for off label uses.
Moore was prescribed the drug for atrial fibrillation. The FDA said the drug should only be used as a last resort, which was not the case for Moore.
Mal Moore was the athletic director for the University of Alabama from 1999 to 2013. He’s most remembered for hiring an NFL coach by the name of Nick Saban to come coach The Tide.
