SPRINGVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE (x2): Both lanes of I-59 North near mile marker 159 are now open.
UPDATE: The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is now reporting 24 total vehicles involved in the accident. There were 20 passenger cars, 3 tractor-trailers and 1 truck pulling a recreational vehicle.
There have been reports of multiple injures, the latest report states 10 injuries, but no deaths at this time.
ORIGINAL: Alabama State Trooper, Chuck Daniel, has confirmed with WIAT 42 that at least 15 vehicles are involved in accident on I-59 Northbound near the 154 exit. He also has confirmed that at least one or two of the cars are on fire.
The accident occurred roughly sometime after 12:30 pm, Monday afternoon.
Daniel confirms that both lanes of traffic are shut down near the 159 mile marker. Traffic is being diverted at the 154 exit. Drivers are encouraged to take U.S. 11 in that area.
