GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) – In the early hours of Monday morning, three men committed a home invasion robbery in the 2100 block of Norris Avenue. It has been reported that at least one of the men was armed with a handgun. The resident of the home, a 37-year-old female, said she awoke when three males kicked in the front door and entered her home. She said one of the men entered her bedroom, put a gun to her head, and forcibly raped her while the other two men ransacked her residence.

The woman told police that two of the men left, but the man assaulting her, who was described as a 17-year-old, stayed behind, beat her in the head with the gun, and demanded money. She told the man that a neighbor kept all of her money, in an apparent attempt to stop the assault and get the attacker out of her home. It was then that the attacker forced her at gunpoint down the street to the neighbor’s home.

The statement by Gadsden Police goes on to say that, once at the neighbor’s home, the woman knocked and yelled for the neighbor, a 59-year-old male, to give her money because she was being attacked. The neighbor woke up and looked out the window to see what was happening. He then called 911.

The woman said the offender saw the man on the phone and yelled for him to get off the phone. He then shot twice into the air before aiming his gun at the neighbor. The neighbor, who armed himself when he saw what was happening outside, was afraid he was about to shot. He then fired one round at the offender, hitting him in the chest. The offender began to run away before collapsing to the ground where he dies within seconds.

Police and medics responded to the scene. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment, while the neighbor was taken to police headquarters for questioning before eventually being released.

Gadsden Police say the investigation is ongoing. If anyone has additional information regarding this case, you are asked to please call the Detective Division at 256 549-4630.
