WIAT 42 News wins Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence

Birmingham, AL – April 23, 2015 – WIAT 42 News has won the Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence.  This prestigious award represents the pursuit of excellence in journalism and only solidifies WIAT 42 News’ commitment to delivering Coverage You Can Count On for Central Alabama viewers.  The station is honored to have also won Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for Hard News, Best Feature and Best Use of Video.

The Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence is a distinct honor that reflects the depth and commitment to journalism at WIAT 42 News.  The Overall Excellence Award recognizes outstanding quality of journalism, including Breaking News, Severe Weather Coverage, and Continuing Coverage of a major news event as well Community efforts and Features.

WIAT 42 News won other highly coveted Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards as well.  Sherri Jackson’s ground breaking investigation, “Letters to Sex Offenders”, won the Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Hard News.  The award for Best Feature was given for the story “Unified Games”, by reporter Chris Womack. Chris was also honored with another Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Use of Video.

Winning these well respected Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, comes just weeks after WIAT 42 News was honored with The National Headliner Award for Investigative Excellence.  Also this spring, the station was honored with an ABBY award from the Alabama Broadcasters Association in the newly created ‘Investigative News’ category.  WIAT 42 News was especially honored to be the first television station in Alabama to be recognized for Excellence in Investigative Reporting.
