Birmingham Police Department detains two suspects in connection with Monday homicide

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The Birmingham Police Department has detained two people of interest in connection with the homicide that took place on Maple Avenue on Monday.

ORIGINAL: A homicide occurred in the 1600 Block of Maple Avenue SW on Monday, which Birmingham Police and detectives are currently investigating.

West Precinct officers responded to the above location around 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Upon arrival, officers observed the victim of a shooting lying in the roadway suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by the Birmingham Fire Department.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from a domestic altercation between the victim and his wife Monday morning. Witnesses said they saw the victim’s wife with another unknown male drive up in a car and place clothes belonging to the victim in the street. The victim and the unknown male engaged in a verbal exchange which lead to a fist fight between the two males. During the fight the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim, after which the suspect and the victim’s wife fled the scene in a blue colored Infiniti.

The identity of the victim will be released once the family has been notified.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available. Detectives are investigating the death as a homicide and the investigation is ongoing.
