SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) – Sommer Wilford, who is charged in the death of her 19-month-old son, is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. According to court records, the Shelby County woman is scheduled for a status hearing at 8:30 this morning.
Wilford is charged with reckless murder, after being involved in an accident that killed her son, Jayden. Investigators say Wilford was standing outside her burning car when emergency crews arrived. They say she never told anybody that her son was still inside the car. It wasn’t until fire crews put the fire out that they realized the child was in the back seat.
Wilford could face life in prison if convicted.
