BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Activist groups from around the nation are gathering in solidarity with the demonstrators in Baltimore. A group of activists here in Birmingham are preparing to join the people of Baltimore in calling for justice, and rebuilding their community.
Three leaders from the National Action Network Youth Moves program and Black Live Matter Birmingham are going for four days to meet with community leaders in Baltimore. They hope to share success stories from Birmingham and bring back some lessons they learn from their trip. They also want to make sure they talk to those who live in the neighborhoods by spreading a message of inclusiveness.
“Everyone is affected by this issue,” said DeMarcus Pruitt, a member of the National Action Network.
“We’re saying that if we can get the lowest of the low, that affects the highest of the high.”
The group plans to meet with the mayor and local pastors during their stay in Baltimore.
