CLANTON, Ala. (WIAT) – The man accused of killing his wife in the door way of a Jemison medical clinic will not be getting out of jail anytime soon.
Chilton County District Court Judge Rhonda Hardesty denied a motion to set bond for Eric Heath Price Tuesday afternoon. Price is accused of shooting his estranged wife Leaj the morning of April 13th.
After Tuesday morning’s hearing, Leaj Price’s parents waited outside just to get a chance to see the man who killed her.
“I hurt for him, I hurt for his mother. I hurt for us. I hurt for my baby, a hundred pound woman running from him and for him to gun her down like he did,” said Margaret Johnson.
Both Margaret and her husband Mark, Leaj’s step-father, say they’re happy Judge Hardesty denied the bond motion.
“There is a six year old child out here that’s lost his best friend, his mother. He has already proved that he is not right. That he is not going to make a good decision,” she said.
Besides the bond motion, Heath Price’s attorney Robert Bowers also made a motion for a gag order about the case. That was denied as well, but the judge did give both the prosecutors and the defense warnings about what they should and shouldn’t say about the case.
The Johnson’s aren’t really concerned about that right now. But they do have a one word question they desperately want answered.
“Why? Why? You loved her, why? How could you do that to somebody you loved? And I know he loved her. I know she loved him. They were young, but why?” Johnson said.
