Three dead and several injured in Center Point house fire

CENTER POINT, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The deceased victims of the Center Point fire have been identified.

Swan Simone Dewitt, 21, is one of the deceased from the Center Point fire. Dewitt lived at the address where the fire occurred.

The second victim has been identified as Christopher Bryan Barnette, Jr., 22. The third victim of the fire died after sustaining injuries. Jerry Randall Taylor, 30, lived at the address of the fire. He was transported to UAB Burn Center with significant burns, but died Tuesday morning.

ORIGINAL: Center Point Fire Department crews are still on the scene of a house fire where two people died Sunday morning.

Chief Donnie West said a total of seven people were inside the home on Jupiter Drive when the fire started around 6:42 a.m. Upon arrival, the fire crews battled heavy flames.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene and another victim was transported to the UAB Burn Center, where they are listed in critical condition. Three others were transported to local hospitals, and one person remains at the scene of the fire. It appears that most of the victims are not related, according to Chief West.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated by the ATF, State Fire Marshal and Center Point Fire Marshal.

West said investigators are waiting to talk to the victim who is currently in critical condition. They believe that victim can help them understand what caused the fire.
