(WIAT) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has started to roll out a new tool for officers to use on patrol.
Troopers are now being issued body cameras. The cameras serve as an additional tool to help protect both the officer and person they come in contact with.
Whether it be use-of-force, traffic stop or pursuit, the actions of both the troopers and those involved will be recorded.
“Every highway patrol person, every marine patrol individual will have a body cam and will be using that body cam on stops on citizen contacts,” said State Trooper Jonathan Appling. “With the way the world is now with law enforcement and things that have happened throughout the country it’s a smart move, it’s a smart move for everyone for the public and for the agency.”
ALEA hopes to have all the body cameras issued and in use by July 1.
