CENTER POINT, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The woman has been identified as Mylira Elizabeth Generette, age 24. Generette was pronounced dead on the scene.
The victim had been staying at the residence with a friend and was watching her friend’s four children while she was away. The children’s father, Jason Maurice Jones, 32, came to the residence and proceeded to argue with the victim. He went out to his car and retrieved a hand gun and then shot the victim when he came back inside. A 13-year-old child called 911 for help.
A description of the suspect and his vehicle was shared with other deputies in the area as well as Birmingham Police Department. The suspect was located in the 1300 block of 5th Place Northwest in Center Point, and he was taken into custody and questioned.
Monday detectives obtained a warrant that charged Jones with capital murder. He is in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
ORIGINAL: A woman was shot and killed Saturday morning while babysitting a friend’s children in Center Point.
Sgt. Jack Self with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office tells WIAT42 News that deputies responded to a shots fired call in the 300 block of 18th Court NW around 9:30 a.m. When they arrived, they found a 24-year-old woman dead from a gunshot wound.
The woman, whose name has not been released pending notification of family, was staying at the residence with a friend. She was spending the morning watching the friend’s four children when the 32-year-old father of the children arrived at the home. The two then got into an argument. The man went out to his car, retrieved a handgun, and went back inside the home and shot the woman. After he left, one of the children called 911.
The suspect was located in the 1300 block of 5th Place NW in Center Point. He was taken into custody and transferred to the Jefferson County Jail. His name is being withheld pending Capital Murder charges.
