Two killed, others injured in early morning accident on I-59 North in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The victims have been identified as Juan Alonzo Ramos, 30, and Tomas Pu-Gabriel, 25, who are both originally form Guatemala. Their current addresses reflect they were living in Center Point.

ORIGINAL: Birmingham Police confirms to WIAT 42 News that they are investigating a double fatal traffic accident that happened early Sunday on I-59 North just before the 4th Avenue South exit.

Police were called out around 4:21 a.m. to the three vehicle accident, according to Lt. Scott Thurmond. Two occupants in one of the vehicles involved died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the accident. Victims in the other vehicles were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

Police are still trying to determine the cause of this accident. The names of the victims killed in this crash will be released pending notification of the next of kin.
