PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Police have charged Charles Edward Dudley, 30, of Pelham, with one count of “school employee engaging in sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19”.
According to a media release sent by Larry Palmer, Pelham police chief, at the time of the allegations, Dudley was employed by John Carroll Catholic High School where the victim attended.
John Carroll released a statement saying:
Recently, we were made aware of an unfortunate incident involving one of our former students and a teacher. Once notified by a concerned parent of a possible student-teacher relationship while the student attended our school we contacted our legal counsel, who in turn hired a private investigator to investigate the allegations. Once it was determined that the allegations appeared credible and criminal, we contacted the Pelham Police Department, who conducted their own investigation. The teacher has resigned.
The case is still under investigation.
WIAT 42 will report additional details as they become available.
