Suspect in Miles College campus shooting taken into custody

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: At 10:18 a.m. on Tuesday, a suspect was taken into custody by the Fairfield Police Department for the shooting on Miles College’s campus. The suspect will also face drug-related charges for possessing marijuana and cocaine during the time of his arrest.

ORIGINAL: Shots were fired on the Miles College campus around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, according to Alicia Johnson Williams, public relations representative for Miles College.

A female student was struck in the elbow.

Police are conducting interviews and reviewing surveillance footage. At this time, officials only know of one injury, but are still trying to determine if anyone else was involved in the shooting.

A police report has been filed with Fairfield Police Department.
