Two men accused of trafficking meth in minivan carrying toddler

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) — Two men accused of hiding meth in a minivan are in the Jefferson County jail. Investigators say they had a three year old child in the car with them.

50-year old Derrick Dennis, of Stone Mountain, GA, and 34-year old Christopher Davidson, of Cedar Bluff, MS, are both charged with trafficking methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy pulled them over on I-459 near I-20 Sunday night because they were going 90 miles an hour in a 70 mile per hour zone.

The men told the deputy they smoked marijuana in the minivan earlier in the day, and invited him to search the car.

When he looked under the hood, he found a nearly 12-ounces of meth hidden in a soft sided cooler.

Both Dennis and Davidson remain in jail with bond set at $1,006,000 for each.

The child, who is Davidson’s son, is in DHR custody.
