ATLANTA, Ga. (WIAT) – Auburn fans are ready to see how their Tigers defense performs under Will Muschamp. Muschamp spent five total years in his coaching career as a defensive coordinator in the SEC, four of which saw his defense ranked in the top 10 nationally.
For Muschamp’s first game, he says he doesn’t care if Louisville scores 7 points or 70, as long as Auburn gets the results they want, “I just want to win. It’s all about winning. It’s nothing about…there is no barometer we’re looking for. Let’s just do what we need to do to win the game and I think any coach would say the same thing – let’s just do what we need to do to win the game, and that’s what we need to do.”
Muschamp has a lot to work with on the defense this year. An example of the team’s depth can be found at linebacker where on the Tigers’ best players, Cassanova McKinzy, Auburn’s leading tackler for the past 2 seasons, isn’t even listed as a starter. Head Coach Gus Malzahn says that depth is really pushing players to compete to be the best, “The great thing about Will is competition brings out best. The thing is we have info from older guys who played but learning new defense you will see multiple guys this first game.”
