MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. (WIAT)- Forty up, and forty down. Hoover has dominated the state of Alabama under Josh Niblett. Since the Prattville Lions knocked off the Bucs in 2011 state title game, Niblett’s teams have won forty straight games over Alabama teams. That run includes three straight state titles. Friday night, however, the Mountain Brook Spartans tried to snap that streak, and came darn close. Christopher Vacarella started the scoring for Hoover, finding Cortez Ward for a twenty-yard scoring strike. Mountain Brook fought back, however, with Connor Adiar hitting Harrison Pyburn for a four-yard touchdown to draw the game to 14-7.
Mountain Brook is known for a stingy defense, and they proved that reputation true by holding Hoover to just 21 points. The Bucs defense was equally as stingy, however, and they walk out with the 21-14 win.
