Employee found shot to death in parking lot of Home Depot identified

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — Hoover police are working a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning in the parking lot of a business located off of Highway 280.

Police responded to a call of shots fired at the Home Depot around 12:31 a.m., says Captain Gregg Rector. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male lying in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hoover Fire Department.

Detectives have been able to determine that the victim was an employee of Home Depot and that he remained at the store for several hours after closing before leaving for the night. While walking to his vehicle, the victim was approached by an unknown person who began firing at him. Rector says a witness, who works at the Home Depot as well, ran back into the store and called 911.

The search is still underway for the suspect who fled the scene on foot without a getaway vehicle. A motive for the shooting has yet to be discovered, and there was no robbery attempt.

The victim has been identified at 25-year-old Xavier Beasley from Birmingham.
