KNOXVILLE, Ala. (WIAT) — Three men have been charged in connection with the murder of a 3-year-old boy.
Harper Colvin was booked into the Greene County Jail Tuesday afternoon. He was charged with murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.
Greene County District Attorney Greg Griggers talked about the case for the first time on Tuesday.
“We do think the evidence in this case will show that this was an intentional shooting. We don’t have any indication at this time to believe the child was the intended target of the shooting, but in the wrong place at the wrong time” Griggers said.
According to investigators, the three year old was hit by a stray bullet Friday in Knoxville while sitting in his father’s car. The District Attorney tells WIAT the suspect, Harper Colvin, got into an argument with Layton’s father and allegedly tried shooting him, but missed.
Labryant Whitehead and Tymon Davis were also taken into custody Friday. Tuesday afternoon they were charged with hindering prosecution. District Attorney Greg Griggers is planning to present this case to the Grand Jury in two weeks.
