BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute introduced their new CEO to the public Wednesday morning. Andra L. Taylor started in her new position on Tuesday, and already has big goals and dreams for the museum.
Taylor is striving to start outreach programs that target the younger generation. She also hopes to incorporate innovative and new technologies into the museum.
“We all stand on the shoulders of civil rights leaders, known and unknown, who all made it possible for us to be here at this place in this time. I thank you all very much and look forward to working with you in becoming part of your community,” Taylor said.
Taylor has an extensive resume that includes a 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award from Boston University, the 2013 Creative Spirit Award from the Black Alumni of Pratt Institute, and a finished of the 2009 New York City Marathon.
Taylor encourages anyone who has not seen the Civil Rights Institute to make a point to visit the museum. The BCRI is open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
