MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — A top official for presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio allegedly punched one of Sen. Rand Paul’s advisers at a bar on Mackinac Island ahead of the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference.
According to the West Michigan Politics blog, Rich Beeson, the deputy political director for Sen. Rubio, punched Sen. Paul’s top adviser John Yob at Horn’s Bar on Mackinac Island Thursday night.
Yob tweeted that he was in fact punched by Beeson and that Michigan State Police are looking for him. He asked for Sen. Rubio to fire Beeson immediately.
Brandon Hall, the managing editor of the West Michigan Politics blog, said he watched as Beeson suddenly approached Yob and hit him near the jaw. Hall writes that the punch was unprovoked.
According to Hall, Beeson was heard trying to “whip votes” on behalf of Sen. Rubio for the Mackinac Straw Poll at the bar throughout the night before he assaulted Yob.
It’s unclear if Beeson will face any charges.
A total of six GOP presidential hopefuls will be attending the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference which begins Friday including Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Rand Paul and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina.
