BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Crowd sourcing is the latest method many families in Alabama are turning to in order to have a child of their own.
In the U.S., 1.5 million women are unable reproduce naturally, and in most cases, the high costs of adoption or IVF treatments aren’t covered by insurance.
Ashleigh Gurley and her husband spent two years trying to conceive, and finally decided adoption was their best option.
However, like so many other families, the $25,000 price tag was more than they could afford.
That’s why they turned to crowd funding for help.
“Well, we chose Go Fund Me because on my Facebook feed there are so many people who have chosen Go Fund Me either for health reasons or just college funds, so we decided to try this out, and when we did we were over whelmed at the response,” said Gurley. “People donating that we didn’t even know. It’s been wonderful.”
