Police searching for suspect in cell phone store robbery

WOODSTOCK, Ala. (WIAT) — Police in Bibb County are searching for the suspect who robbed the “Phone Doctor” in Woodstock Sunday night.

The entire incident was caught on video surveillance cameras. Investigators say a man wearing a hoodie and a mask robbed the cell phone store around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. According to the victims, the suspect punched, kicked and pistol whipped them. Then, he stole their wallets and several cell phones.

The business is located next to the gas station and Food Mart. Anwar Vasaya is a manager at the gas station who was visiting his friend Zoheb Bhayni who works at the cell phone business when the armed robber stormed inside and pulled out a gun and demanded money.

“And the guy comes in suddenly with a gun and he showed me the gun and hit me over the head right here, and he kicked me in the corner and I fell down,” Vasaya said.

Zoheb Bhayni says it happened so quickly. Before he knew it, he was on the floor after the suspect hit him in the head.

“He asked me for the money and I said ‘I don’t have money here’. So he dragged me to the cashier and punched me and showed me the gun and said ‘give me the money or else I will shoot you'”.

The victims say they are lucky to be alive; they were both treated at the hospital for minor injuries. If you have any information about this crime or recognize the man seen in the video, call Woodstock Police at (205) 938-9790.
