TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Both the Alabama and Auburn football teams are preparing for the ultimate showdown this Saturday: the Iron Bowl.

The last time these teams met at the Iron Bowl in 2013 at Jordan Hare, Auburn crushed Alabama fans with a last second victory known as the “Kick Six.”

Alabama fan Kevin Frost wants payback. He and his friend Haigen Mirando were talking about the Iron Bowl defeat over lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings in Tuscaloosa. Frost says even two years later he is still heartbroken.

“I really just want to hurt them man, they crushed our dreams two years ago with that kick six and everybody has been thinking about it. We finally get to go back to Jordan Hare and nothings better than sweet vengeance,” Frost said.

An Alabama player tried kicking a 57 yard field goal with the score tied at 28. But the kick came up short and Auburn’s Chris Davis caught the ball and ran down the sideline scoring the game winning touchdown defeating Alabama. This coming Saturday Alabama fan Haigen Mirando is hoping his team will pull off the victory this time around and will beat Auburn.

“We are a much better team, Coker is getting comfortable, Derrick Henry is a Heisman candidate. I think we can pull it off this week. I want a victory and I want to crush Auburn,” Mirando said.

Alabama leads the all-time series against Auburn, and has won five of the last seven meetings.

However, some Auburn fans say the historic kick six is their single greatest memory in their entire lives as football fans.

“It was literally in that last second. Anything can happen, a lot of games end in the last 15 seconds, but that one second, we caught that field goal and won,” said one Auburn fan.

There are mixed views about whether or not the Tigers can pull off a win over the Tide, but they’re hoping to see another victory at Jordan-Hare.

“I think that it’s a long shot this year. Bama’s really strong and Auburn, we haven’t done too good, but it’s always a possibility. The Iron Bowl, anything can happen during the Iron Bowl,” said another Auburn fan.
