BPD conducting homicide investigation after victim shot in passenger seat of car

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department responded to a homicide call on Nov. 23 at 9:31 p.m. on the 200 block of 8th Avenue West.

Officers found the victim sitting in the front passenger seat of a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to the neck area. The victim, later identified as 33-year-old Tyrone Rashane Staton, was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was riding in the car with the witness who was the driver, and another unknown male. According to the witness, the unknown male pulled out a gun and shot the victim once in the neck.

The witness said he immediately stopped the car and ran to a nearby fire station to notify law enforcement. The unknown male had fled the scene when the officers arrived. The witness was taken in for further questioning.
