Local restaurants receive low health scores for roaches, mold

(WIAT) — In this week’s edition of dicey dining, we highlighted two local eating establishments that have plenty of room for improvement in their health rating scores.

The Waffle House at 1833 Crestwood Blvd. in Irondale received a score of 76. According to the report, health inspectors found a roach on the wall above a sink, a piece of duct tape with a large accumulation of roaches stuck to it, soiled coffee cups, and dishes with food debris still on them.

In North Jefferson County, the Wendy’s on Fulton Ave. in Gardendale had a rating of 77 because health inspectors found mold accumulation on the ice machine.

There was also no documentation of food safety training for four employees. Health inspectors also found an employee preparing food while wearing a watch, which is a health code violation.

Both of these restaurants had previously received ratings of an 88 during previous health inspections.
