CLEVELAND (AP) – A Cleveland man has been indicted on kidnapping and other charges for taking his 5-year-old son from the Alabama home of the boy’s mother in 2002 and creating new identities for them.
Prosecutors on Tuesday announced that 32 counts including forgery and tampering with records were filed against 53-year-old Bobby Hernandez. He had already been charged with interference with custody after his arrest earlier this month.
Authorities say Hernandez moved to Cleveland and built a new life for himself and his son. His attorney has said Hernandez knows he’ll face consequences.
The ruse fell apart this fall when discrepancies with his 18-year-old son’s Social Security number were discovered as he began the college application process.
A school counselor discovered the teen was actually Julian Hernandez and listed as missing.
