BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham City Council has delayed the discussion and vote on Uber after edits to documents handed to council just minutes before the agenda item came to the floor.
Councilwomen Valerie Abbott and Kim Rafferty voted no to bring the agenda item to the floor as they said they saw changes in documents they were not able to look over. That sparked some intense debate among council members after five were scrutinized for their absence from last week’s meeting, which some members saw as political ploys.
For the Uber agenda item to be brought to the floor in Tuesday’s meeting, it needed unanimous consent. The item will be tabled until next week’s meeting where it does not need a unanimous vote to be brought to the floor for discussion.
