BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE DEC 11, 2015: A suspect has been arrested in the Nov. 30 fatal shooting of Mario Sparks.
Birmingham Police say the suspect is 27-year-old Cedric Young of Birmingham. Birmingham Police Lt. Edwards said a murder warrant with a bond of $250,000 has been obtained against the suspect, who is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
ORIGINAL DEC. 1, 2015: A man was fatally shot in the 5400 block of Wintergreen Avenue in Birmingham Monday night.
The victim has been identified as Mario T. Sparks, 30, of Fairfield, the Jefferson County Coroner said.
According to Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards, officers found the victim lying on the ground in the driveway suffering apparent gunshot wounds to the body.
Sparks was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:52 p.m.
Edwards said the preliminary investigation revealed the victim was riding a vehicle with his girlfriend before getting out of the car to “conduct some unknown business.”
The girlfriend said she later heard several shots so she drove the car into Midfield and called 911.
According to Sgt. Shelton with the Birmingham Police Department, no suspect is in custody at this time.
The shooting is under investigation.
