(WIAT) – Tuesday is World AIDs Day.
To mark the day, a large red ribbon was placed in front of the White House.
It’s an opportunity for people around the world to unite in the fight against HIV.
According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, there are more than 12,000 Alabamians living with the virus that causes AIDS.
Locally you can mark the day by attending a World AIDS Day concert and open house. This free community event will take place at First Presbyterian Church on 4th Avenue North. Festivities kick off at 5 p.m.
There will be performances by the Birmingham Metro Youth Choir, Canaan Baptist Church Choir and the Magic City Choral Society.
