Tusclaoosa man shot during argument about stolen goods, suspect in custody

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: According to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, Tyler Guyton is in custody.

ORIGINAL: The Tuscaloosa Police Department responded to a call about a shooting on Tuesday around 1:20 a.m.

Upon arrival to Campus Way Apartments, police found a 25-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to  his left wrist/hand area. The wound is non-life threatening.

The victim said his apartment was burglarized a few days before the shooting, and an acquaintance on Facebook saw a photo of someone wearing the victim’s clothing, which was stolen during the burglary. The victim and the witness ran into one of the suspects, Tyler Guyton, 20, in a common area at the apartment complex.

The victim said he confronted Guyton and the two began to argue. The victim said Guyton pulled a gun from his waistband, firing one shot, which struck him in the wrist.

Officers arrived on the scene about the time the shot was fired, and the suspect fled on foot. He was not found, but the firearm was recovered.

A warrant is being obtained on Tyler Guyton for assault in the second degree.
