BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — After a tight first half dominated by defense, the Homewood Patriots exploded in the third quarter to carry them to the Steel City Invitational title, 51-41, over J.O. Johnson.
The Patriots finished the third quarter on a 13-0 run over the final four minutes, giving them a lead they would never relinquish thanks to their three point shooting. The Patriots shot 66% from deep in the second half after making only one of their first ten from distance.
Homewood’s rally was sparked by tournament MVP Luke Touliatos, who’s 18 points led all scorers. Ronald Claiborne and Trey Jemison added eight points each for the Patriots.
J.O. Johnson’s John Petty, who dropped 35 points against Ramsay Monday, finished with only 13 points on 6-15 shooting. Petty was named to the all-tournament team along with Touliatos.
The win was the 500th in the career of Homewood head coach Tim Shepler and puts the Patriots at 14-1 on the season.
