Bessemer teen charged with robbery, attempted murder after Center Point shooting

CENTER POINT, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The suspect has been identified as Devon Rashaad Thomas, 18 of Bessemer.

Detectives had gone to the hospital to speak to the victim, and while they were there, a person suffering from a gunshot wound was brought in and eventually identified as the suspect.

Thomas was treated for his wound and released from the hospital. Upon release from the hospital, he was arrested for robbery in the first degree and attempted murder. He is currently at the Jefferson County Jail under a $120,000 bond.

ORIGINAL: Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of a person shot just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival to the 20th block of Haversham Circle, they found a 29-year-old male victim lying in the apartment parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was transported to the area hospital, and his injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Initial investigations have concluded the victim got into an argument with another man in the parking lot, and the man pulled out a gun and shot him. The suspect got into a green Dodge Ram truck with another man and fled the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
