BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — More help is on the way for one west Birmingham neighborhood recovering from a Christmas Day tornado.

Soon, those affected by the storm will get the help they need from the government.

Monday, we caught up with Alabama EMA Director Art Faulkner as he surveyed the damage on Jefferson Avenue. Local leaders, as well as representatives with FEMA and the small business administration, joined him.

This was Faulkner’s second visit to Jefferson Avenue in a week.

“What was most impressed upon me today is we still see the individuals here at the church close by and still helping their neighbors. And they’re providing food and some other critical supplies that these individuals need to be able to go on with their life,” Faulkner said.

Faulkner says this is the first step in determining what can be done to help the victims of the Christmas Day tornado.
