BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Time is running out to book a trip to Phoenix for the National Championship, but local travel agencies say people are still making last minute reservations.
At this point, flights are selling out left and right. Monday night at about 5:30 p.m., the cheapest flight online was listed at more than $1,000 and had two layovers and a nearly 16 hour travel time.
Birmingham’s AAA office says they have had a lot of people call them and get maps to Phoenix, because they plan to make the 24 hour drive out west.
If you are planning on driving, Clay Ingram with AAA says you should of course map out your route. But also call ahead and book where you are going to stay because hotel rooms on the way may be selling out too.
“You need to plan where you’re stopping especially for hotels for the night don’t wait until 10:00 to start calling around because you may have problems,” Clay Ingram with AAA said.
Other options are to book travel packages or chartered flights. However, most of those are already sold out too. All Seasons Sports Travel told us they only had a few seats left on their two large chartered flights.
