Former Cumberland Law professor charged with possession of child pornography

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — 68-year-old Joseph Whitlow Blackburn, of Hoover, was charged with the possession of child pornography. Blackburn was a former law professor at Cumberland Law School at Samford University.

Agents with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force conducted an investigation of Blackburn between January 30, 2013 and April 16, 2013. They were able to pinpoint two instances where Blackburn shared child pornography over the internet.

From there, ICAC agents identified the IP address associated with the child pornography downloads and obtained a search warrant for Blackburn’s Hoover home. In April of 2013, agents seized computers and other electronic devices.

A forensic examination revealed pornographic images of children. Blackburn admitted to possessing child pornography and agreed to a 3-year prison sentence, followed by 10 years of supervised release.
