BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: Michael McSwain was captured by Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies. According to the sheriff’s office, McSwain was arrested on April 29th.
Sheriff’s deputies got a tip that McSwain was at a home in the Bayview area. While they were clearing the house, he ran out the side door and was captured by a sergeant with Bessemer Patrol. McSwain was arrested for an outstanding warrant for Violation of the Sex Offender Act – Providing False Information.

WIAT 42 News is partnering with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office to track missing sex offenders in our community.
Michael McSwain, 35, was convicted of 2nd Degree Rape in Shelby County in 2004. He was found guilty of raping a 15-year-old female.
McSwain was released from the Jefferson County Jail on November 25, 2015. Deputies with the Jefferson County Sex Offender Unit did an address check and learned that McSwain hadn’t registered with Shelby County.
Now, deputies say that McSwain is wanted for one violation of the Sex Offender Registration Notification Act in Jefferson County and two violations of the same act in Shelby County.
Deputies believe that McSwain could be in the Shelby County or Alabaster area.
