Gadsden man charged with sodomy, sexual abuse of a child under 12

GADSDEN, Ala. (WIAT) — Robert Dale Kitchens, 31 of Gadsden, plead guilty to charges of sodomy in the first degree and sexual abuse of a child under 12-years-of-age on Monday.

Judge David Kimberly sentenced Kitchens to 30 years in each of the two sodomy charges and 20 years on the sexual abuse charge.

An investigation began after an 8-year-old child reported to her parents that Kitchens had been sexually abusing her. After law enforcement involvement, it was determined that the incidents occurred over a period of two years.

Being a victim of crime is never easy, but when children are victimized, the cases are particularly difficult on everyone involved,” said Deputy District Attorney Carol Griffith.  “Using a team approach, we can avoid repetitious interviews, and concentrate on finding the truth without causing any further trauma to the child victim.  We are fortunate here to have a great group of people who work well together, and whose primary concerns are for the children involved.”

Because the abuse was inflicted on someone under the age of 12, Kitchens will not be eligible for early release from prison due to good time, probation or parole.
