TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Tuscaloosa police responded to reports of a shooting at the Heights of Skyland Apartments on 18th Ave. on Wednesday.
Upon arrival, police found a 19-year-old black male who has been identified as Daniel Torry of Eutaw, suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot.
Torry was transported to DCH and later pronounced dead.
After reviewing video and speaking to witnesses about the shooting, it was determined the suspects left the scene in a silver 4-door Honda Accord from the early 2000’s.
Investigators located the car Thursday around 2:30 p.m. and were able to identify the people related to the shooting as Robert Lee Jones II, 19, and Orin Cruckshank, 23.
Investigators obtained information about Cruckshank around 11 p.m. Thursday, attemting to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle were Cruckshank was a passenger. During the stop, Cruckshank jumped form the rear of of the vehicle into the driver seat, leading officers on a lengthy pursuit in west Tuscaloosa.
Officers were able to get Cruckshank’s vehicle stopped on Highway 11 South after spiking the vehicle’s tires. He was taken into custody at that time and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle, which investigators believe to be the murder weapon of Daniel Torry.
A capital murder warrant was obtained for both men following. Cruckshank was arrested and placed in the county jail with no bond.
Jones turned himself in to investigators Friday morning around 8:30 a.m. Jones is still being questioned by investigators at this time.
