Birmingham police investigating fatal stabbing at Aspen Run apartments, victim identified

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Brian John Harwick, 42.

Harwick was involved in an altercation inside of an apartment and was found in a breezeway at the complex. He was transported to UAB Hospital where he later died.

ORIGINAL: Birmingham police are investigating after a man was stabbed to death in the 1200 block of Aspen Run apartments after a fight.

Officers responded on a call of a person stabbed around 12:30 p.m. Monday. When they arrived they found a black male outside the apartment suffering from several stab wounds to the body.

According to Birmingham Police Lt. Sean Edwards, the deceased entered the apartment of “a former female associate.” Once inside, the man was unaware the female’s boyfriend was also inside.

Edwards said a fight began between both men after the male shot at the boyfriend and missed. The man received several stab wounds during the altercation.

According to Edwards, all parties were taken to the administration building.

The man was transported to UAB hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Edwards said the case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office to see if charged will be filed.

The investigation is ongoing.
