WINSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WIAT) – The attorney for two former Winston County deputies who filed a lawsuit against the sheriff spoke to WIAT 42 News Tuesday.
We got to see and hear recordings the deputies made when they say their boss asked them to give him marijuana.
“All you got to do is peel a little off. You don’t need all of that for court.”
Former deputies’ Zac Green and Steven Moody say the voice you hear in the audio recording is their old boss, Winston County Sheriff Hobby Walker asking them to illegally obtain marijuana for him.
The two former lawmen say Walker had asked many times for the illegal drugs.
Eventually, with permission from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the FBI, they got him some.
Green and Moody were fired by Walker in November.
Their lawsuit seeking re-instatement and damages was filed about two weeks ago.
We got a chance to speak exclusively with their attorney this afternoon.
“This is a situation where people are still being prosecuted today for marijuana use in in Winston County,” he said. “What the sheriff asked these officers to do was to endanger of those cases by taking evidence from those cases. And the hypocrisy of the fact that he thinks he’s above the law that he can obtain illegal drugs and distribute illegal drugs while he’s still prosecuting and still obtaining arrests for the same thing from other citizens.”
We have called and left several messages for Sheriff Walker.
