Birmingham Police respond to homicide, victim identified

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Jerrell Demond Rogers, 29 of Birmingham.

He was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:30 a.m.

ORIGINAL: The Birmingham Police Department is responding to a homicide at 45th Street North and 8th Terrace North, in the Kingston community.

The shooting reportedly happened at 8:22 a.m. Upon arrival to the listed location, officers found a black male lying on the ground, suffering from several gunshot wounds to the body. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

Preliminary investigations indicate the victim was shot by an unknown black male, who left the scene in a gray colored pickup truck.

The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family.

No further information is available at this time, however, this case is still under investigation.
